If you read Part 1, you know the Beta Program at PlayStation is real, free, and run directly by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Here’s exactly how it works, from registration to your first invite.

Step 1: Register once

You don’t apply per beta. You fill out a single registration form telling Sony about your gaming preferences, then agree to the Beta Program at PlayStation Terms. That’s it — you’re now in the pool for future betas that match your profile.

Submitting the form does not guarantee you’ll be selected for anything. It just makes you eligible to be considered.

Step 2: Wait for an invitation

Sony emails you individually for each beta you’re selected for. Invitations are sent entirely at SIE’s discretion, matched against the preferences you registered with. There’s no fixed timeline — you could be invited within weeks, or not hear anything for a while if nothing currently being tested fits your profile.

Step 3: Decide whether to join that specific beta

Getting invited to a beta doesn’t obligate you to participate. Each invite is an opt-in: if the timing or the beta doesn’t interest you, you simply don’t register for that one. You stay in the program and can be considered for future invitations.

Step 4: Sign the NDA

Every beta requires a Non-Disclosure Agreement. That means:

• No streaming, screenshots, videos, or details posted anywhere outside approved channels
• Any download codes or vouchers are locked to your account — they can’t be shared, sold, or transferred
• Breaking NDA can get you removed from the beta and the program

Step 5: Test, report, repeat

You’ll get instructions before each beta starts on how to report bugs and submit feedback. Development teams review everything submitted. One detail worth knowing: submitting feedback or ideas transfers ownership of those ideas to SIE, and they may be used in the final product — for everyone, not just you.

Who is NOT eligible

Sony disqualifies applicants who don’t meet these baseline requirements:

• Account restrictions: any account with a suspension or a Terms of Service / Code of Conduct violation is not eligible
• Region restrictions: you must live in a supported PlayStation region (this covers nearly all PlayStation markets, but check if you’re in an unusual territory)
• Age requirements: you must meet the legal age minimum for your region

FAQs

Is it free? Yes. There’s no cost to register or participate. You do need the relevant hardware (PS5, PC, or mobile) and an internet connection for whatever you’re testing — PlayStation Plus is not required.

Will I get paid? No, unless explicitly stated otherwise for a specific beta. Participation is voluntary and unpaid by default.

Do I keep the game after the beta ends? No. Betas are time-limited, and testing a game does not mean you own it or keep access after the beta closes.

How buggy are these builds? Expect bugs and performance issues — these are not final builds and don’t represent full game quality.

Can I revert my PS5 system software after a beta? Yes, for system software betas, Sony provides guidance on backing up your data and reverting beforehand.

Can I leave the program? Yes, at any time, and you can also just decline individual beta invitations without leaving the overall program.
